We Don’t Know What We Are Doing – TSS FC Rovers – A Season in Review

By | Coaching, Culture | No Comments

That was quick. And long. And relentless. And chaotic. And beautiful.

Year one is in the books as they say. Well actually the books are far from done and as I sit at the coffee shop writing these words the cars are still packed with inventory, the garages are both full of remnants including kit that hasn’t been washed, and what’s left of the towel stock that hasn’t found it’s way into a foreign kit bag by mistake is draped across the laundry room. Ticket stubs lay strewn across my dining room table and countless PDL patches remain on the office desk instead of ironed onto jerseys as planned. Yes, the last on field sessions have been completed and all the matches are now over, but the cheques haven’t all been sent, the wrap up is in full swing but requires many more man hours, and believe it or not, next season looms already. “Choice words” spark TSS Rovers comeback win over Vancouver Whitecaps Residency

TSS FC Rovers took on a Vancouver Whitecaps Residency side on Sunday in a match that allowed both teams to get some vital minutes under their belt for a number of players.

And it was a proverbial tale of two halfs, with a lacklustre Rovers side trailing 1-0 at the break to a Theo Bair header, before coming out all guns blazing in the second, scoring goals from Kristian Yli-Hietanen, Zach Verhoven, and Matteo Polisi (with a penalty) for the 3-1 win. Read More

How Two Friends Launched Their Own Football Club

By | Coaching, Culture, Development | No Comments

Upstairs in a bar, overlooking downtown Vancouver, they gathered. Despite the balloons and the sound system at the front of the room, the crowd of roughly 150 people weren’t there for a birthday party, but a celebration of a different sort.

Will Cromack and Colin Elmes stood in front of the crowd, each taking a turn with the microphone. The group facing them had gathered to support the two’s ambitious project, one the pair hoped would lead to better development of Canadian footballers.

The men had known each other as teammates on the same university football team and reconnected in the summer of 2016.

Elmes is a former University of British Columbia varsity soccer player and Canadian national team member, while Cromack played alongside Elmes and represented Canada at the youth levels. Read More

So you support Canadian soccer do you?

You are our type of friend. A person to commiserate with and dream about future days when the Maple Leaf flies high at a World Cup, both on the mens and womens side!

You are made of stone. Strong willed obviously as the thought of continually supporting the underdog has hardened your skin but your heart remains buoyant that one day it will happen and the boys will earn a spot at the top of the game too.

You see players moving on to play in the world’s top leagues and agents demanding the very best of our coveted Canadian players. Read More

One month countdown: TSS FC Rovers get ready for first PDL season with launch event

Posted on April 8, 2017

It’s just four weeks until TSS FC Rovers play their first ever PDL match when they head east to take on Calgary Foothills on May 5th.

There’s still a lot for the TSS guys to do in that time, and you can be sure the next month will fly by at a seemingly alarming rate for Willie Cromack and Colin Elmes, but everything’s starting to take shape and Friday night saw the club’s launch event. Read More

Canadians for Canadians

By | Coaching, Culture | No Comments

Canada is a funny place if you’re a football fan. You grow up surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people who play the game, millions that care about events such as the Champions League and the World Cup, soccer facilities abound and yet, we are a culturally insignificant country as far as participation at the highest level of the sport go. Such and odd state of affairs. Read More

Relocated soccer franchise kicks off a labour of love

By | Coaching | No Comments

At what point does a business operation become a labour of love?

Steveston’s Colin Elmes is pretty much living that moment right now, even after running TSS Academy, a local soccer training school for up-and-coming young players, over the better part of two decades.

That’s because he acquired a soccer team franchise that will play in the PDL (Premier Development League), what Elmes considers to be the third tier in the professional game on this continent, kicking off play in May.
